I don't know you. I do know that you have no idea what the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineers and the Project Management Institute is. I do know that you have no idea what Certified Cost Engineer, Certified Forensic Claims Consultant, and Project Management Professional certifications are.

As I mentioned, Experience or Education isn't necessary to refute the post "Microsoft is DEAD". A 3rd grade education and a tad of common sense would tell you that..

Obviously, WE all don't. My original post was not addressed to you but to Mr. BR Lawyer whose exact post was "Microsoft is DEAD"... Please go on though and tell me about how "WE ALL KNOW"....

Again, it's nonsense like this that indicates to me that you have no idea what you are talking about. I need not know about your qualifications or experience. You continue to show me how truly knowledgeable you are..

So you're saying the only reason anyone goes into business is to make profit?
It's not possible to see the breakeven point as the fundamental target?
Staying in business is not important then?

The associations that you belong to are not going to be recognised so quickly this side of the pond, but I wasn't suggesting you didn't have qualifications, I suggested waving them around was not necessary or well received in a forum where a general chat about giants of industry will not affect their business models or practices one iota.

Welcome to Macrumors by the way!

After the ROKR and SLVR, is anyone really surprised that Cingular will help launch this phone?

I'm still waiting for this to hit the market. My SLVR is great, and as long as Apple does NOT make a slider, I will buy an iPhone right away.

2007 is going to be spendy. I'll have to buy "iTV", Leopard, "iPhone", and a new portable. AHHH

So...what these guys are saying is we should all go out and buy these apps now before they're pulled.

I see this being a windfall for the people that make the apps. :D

Then after they're pulled. expect them to be a featured app on the jailbroken Cydia app store.

    I have an example, too.

I do have Airport Expresses and ATV2s around my house and often use it to play music throughout the house, especially during holidays and parties.

Problem is in my den, I have several computers and a good 5.1 surround system, but no Airport Express. It sure would be nice to pipe sound into there too.

Home Sharing does this. Use the Remote app and choose the computer to control if you want iOS remote control.

I downloaded 1 movie (FlightPlan) to test the system out, but I won't be buying anymore until it is at least DVD quality (640 x 272 isn't close enough).

It's bad enough buying a movie without a case, hardcopy, or any bonus features, but to top it off, it isn't even DVD quality... and for that I pay $10?

Why is Apple always cutting corners? They get so close to great things, but not close enough.

I was asking you what I thought would be an easy question for you to answer. I'll ask again, it will work with any USB device, do you think that is an incentive for drive vendors to invest in it? I'll wait.
Yeah, it is. USB 3.0 is not that big of a step up from USB 2.0 so those that really need the extra bandwidth will not bother with it and go straight to Thunderbolt. Simple as that. Leave your rinky dink Toys R Us low bandwidth peripherals to USB and leave the big boy peripherals to Thunderbolt.

And I've posted no strawman arguments. I didn't insult you either. It was an observation. Reading difficulty is a problem, sure, but it is a a challenge that many people face. I am hopeful that those with this limitation can better themselves perhaps by taking some courses. Dialog is always better with someone that understands and can follow the discussion.Sure you have, you've completely ignored my other post then changed the subject to reading comprehension to smokescreen the topic at hand. Oh and give me a break with your non-insult ********. You have been making jabs about short buses and taking comprehension classes over a Thunderbolt and USB discussion. If anything you are the one that needs to take some classes, maybe not on comprehension but I'm sure you get the idea.

To properly recap, I believe it could be a repeat of FW and it could end up being considered 'Mac only'. I know it is subtle that a claim it will be DOA (well, subtle like a baseball bat, I guess), but it shouldn't be this difficult for you to understand. You are really, truly, picking the wrong fight. I think we actually agree on a lot of points. I'd like it to succeed, but can see things that might be obstacles. You don't see those as obstacles or perhaps don't see them at all. But, really, stop arguing against things I never said.Actually let's do a real recap:
You agree with a claim that Thunderbolt will be Mac only
I respond with an article that simply states it won't be
You respond with the reason it won't take off as manufacturers will have to add it separately
Econgeek tells you it's a completely different scenario because they don't need a license through Apple
I tell you Intel will be supporting both
You then start with your strawman argument and ignore a portion of what I stated
You also follow that up with some insults
I respond with video proof of why Thunderbolt will be popular with many devices
You ignore then respond with more insults

    What is this....

    www.apple.com/movies

    comes up with

    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /movies on this server.

    What might this mean

movies.apple.com is where they keep the movies that stream on the site (like the get a mac ads)
you normally can't browse to them, but if you look at the page info using Firefox, you can see on a page where the media is located. That's how you can download those movies withouth getting quicktime pro

Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be another device like the Apple hi-fi. What a let down that was!

So we will get movie service from iTunes, a new iPOD NANO with a metal scratchproof case, a new Airport extreme with Audio and Video OUT... no hi-def for sure... and a bump in processor speed for the whole line.

Am I really leaving anything out?

We'll see next week. The hype always just creates this big let down for me. Hopefully my negative attitude will bring me happiness, regardless of what is presented.

    WHY SUCH A LONG WAIT???

Steve likes to see people squirm..:p

    Prediction :

    iMovie Store
    True Video iPod
    23" iMac
    Speed bumps

    "One More Thing"

That media device we've been watching for.

    I'm not on Facebook.

And for a lot of things I can chose to opt-out, or even better, I get to opt-in.

This is stored without me knowing, the data is stored unencrypted, and for most owners, the data will end up on their computers unencrypted.

Apple, Google, or my phone provider storing this information in their servers is a different issue than it being stored on the phone.

So did you opt-in that the government / law enforcement gets the tracking data of your phone (smart-phone,dumb-phone,whatever-phone) .... well does not really matter because they don't care if you opted in or not, they just store it on THEIR server (which is quite different than having it on my phone and my laptop with only me having access ... well its still stored on the government server)

This is total BS. We should have been informed of this and a way to turn it off or delete the file on our own. As for the poster above who stated it only goes to your computer, I highly doubt it. This is another big brother tracking honest citizens. Hope a class action does happen. I will definitely sign on!

I'm working with Arn on that one... Woodcrest is pretty much slated towards the PowerMacs. We may have to update the story...

    sorry about that. story updated.

    arn

yay, I feel special now. ;) Thanks guys. :)

I really think the iMac should use Conroe now. I think the reason they used the Yonah chip is that they had no desktop "Core" architecture chips available. While using Merom is the easy thing to do, I hope they don't do it. The iMac is supposedly a desktop, it should use a desktop chip.

My thoughts exactly. Now that intel has a real desktop processor, why shouldn't apple's desktop computer use it?

Did anyone pay attention to the power and thermal requirements of Conroe?

The 2.40 and 2.66 (which would be great for the imacs) use 114 Watts at idle and 158-162 at load (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795&p=7). Here's info on power draw for original G5s (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=32486), early 2005 G5s (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302439), and late 2005 G5s (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303540). I fail to see the problem. I'm not being flip - I really fail to see the problem. They fit G5s in to imacs, and those power draw numbers look worse than conroe's, unless I'm missing something.

The point I was trying to make is that high commuting costs means people have to make tough choices about their discretionary spending.

I agree with that, but I fail to see how you have the wrong priorities like KingYaba suggested.

Gas is a much bigger drain then iPhones on a families monthly bills. So dealing with gas costs(moving closer, buying a smaller car, driving less, etc) is a much easier way to saving money the canceling something small like the 20 dollar data plan from the first iPhone.

Most likely. I'm not a betting person, but Apple usually rolls out new pro machines during these types of events and what better way to show off the MBPs running C2D than a demonstration of Aperture 2.0. :)

Looking at some financials, I think Disney sells on the order of 100M DVD units per quarter, which comes out to about 7-10M units per week? 125k units through the online channel in one week isn't so bad. :) If they hit their $50M revenue target, that means they will see sales on the order of 1% of total home video sales? That's a fair start.

And undoubtedly a better margin. I have not seen any concrete numbers, but I had read an article months ago speculating that a studio's margin on digitally distributed movies would be about twice the margin it receives on DVDs.

Plus, for catalog sales, the is almost NO marginal cost; the films just sit on a server until someone buys them.

My 2 cents worth of predictions as to what will be announced at this event

Apterture update (going out on a limb there)

iSight update (since ship times have slipped to October, it seem like Photokina would be a logical place to announce new iSight cameras)

new Cinema Displays (they were discounted at WWDC over a month ago, so perhaps that's an inventory clearance strategy to make room for new, larger displays that might incorporate built in, adjustable iSights)

Actually that could be possible. Maybe upgrade the 23" LCD to 24", and introduce a 42" LCD.

screen is scaled 16x10 format (don't know if that's right or not) - key shape/layout is unknown.

again, these are renditions, not the product itself. Although, I'd buy one...I think the buttons would be way too small to use them. But the overall looks would be quite nice.
