I find this report very hard to believe. An experienced company planning to launch a product, but not signing a contract with a company for x amount of LCD panels, a component that is notoriously in tight supply? Sounds more like Asia decided to raise their prices "due to the Tsunami" and gouge clients. They're doing it Apple, but they can afford to be gouged. RIM probably decided to sit it out for a bit.

If Macs are based on ARM they should be able to run iOS apps, ARM Windows 8, ARM Linux, etc. And I wouldn't be surprised if there would be an "x86 Rosetta".

So it's definitely due for one. You don't really think they'll go a year before it's upgraded, do you?

I wouldn't say it would be anything noticable!

Probably make the low end one a 1.66 Duo and the top one a 1.8 or 2.0 Duo

sure we do. Developer Tools for example. also there are more 64 bit 3rd party apps out there, that I dont feel like looking up right now.

however, your right, consumer apps are primarily 32 bit, and os x apps like ical, mail etc, wont go 64 bit until leopard.

yeah, but we don't know if Leopard will be totally 64-bit anyways (we'll find out soon enough)

But the average American gets a refund soooooo 288 clearly wins lol

Less is more, and more is less when to taxes you refer...

If you have a big refund, it means that you pay too much, so you are not being very good at your day to day application of math.

Also when you say American do you refer to any citizen in the American continent or just the people that was born in the United States of America?

Either way an American receiving a big tax refund means that a lot of his (or her) money was better used by the government than what he (or she) could have done with it. Taking us back to the same subject: poor application of Math skills.:o

In the USA, you always have a second chance to file an amendment. So if you fail doing your math, you have a second chance..Something very well thought for those who follow the PEMDAS.

Merom in the MBP for sure. Now.

Apple is showing "64-bit" in the one banner.

But don't expect Merom in the MacBook anytime soon.

Ah man. I wanted a cheap, robust, no-BS phone. I don't know what my next cellphone will be. I just don't feel like investing a lot into a cellphone. What I want to do is to just TALK! I feel the same.

I'd like apple to release a shuffle sized phone that is ,durable, sleek, simple, has no camera, no internetbrowsing, a small LED display.

But alas that will never happen. The iPhone could be enough for me to venture out into territory i haven't in over...5 years now. OWNING A CELL! ;)

Make it good apple so I can throw my $ at you without hesitation.

Ouch that sounds bad but good thing I don't use Time Machine. I'm thinking of downloading/installing this on my MBA! Reviews on the net (e.g. CNET) make it sound quite good.

I do think the Android and potentially RIM tablet will catch on. It's foolish to think Apple will be the only major player in the long run. The market is potentially too big.

Apple is the only major player in the MP3 player market, even though that market is huge.

Microsoft is the only major player in the desktop OS market, even though that market is huge.

Google is the only major player in the search market, even though that market is huge.

    Etc.

I also think Apple will leave the MB with Yonah. They will want product differentiation and price differentiation.

So I think they will drop the price to <$1000.00 for MB and re-design MBP to provide enhancements similar to MB but with faster Merom CPU's and higher price than MB.

To be honest, I bought a MacBook and I am happy with it; it has best price/performance ratio of all the Mac notebooks and I didn't want to spend too much money (just bought it for fun). But if Apple tried to sell a MacBook with Yonah while selling MacBook Pro with Merom, where I know exactly that they could get Merom chips at the same price as Yonahs, just for "product differentiation", I would tell them to stuff it.

Globalization is a race to the bottom, and nobody seems to understand that while the 3rd world rises up, the 1st world inevitably must slide down.

It's not a zero sum game. Western economies will increasingly shift toward higher skilled professions as the BRIC countries take over manufacturing and mid level white collar work. The U.S. must step up its educational training in order for its many low paid service workers to move up the ladder, though.

Centrino is the name of Intel's mobile platform - the chipset, wireless capabilities and a mobile processor - originally the Pentium M, but now its replacement, the Core Solo/Duo.

    The budget name is Celeron.

Ugh! Damn names that all sound the same...
How am I supposed to remember that?
Well, anyway, I find it annoying. It's called Core Duo, and companies should not change the name on a whim.

Another thing I find annoying is that places like Domayne, Harvey Norman, Dick Smiths, etc, never mention what graphics card is in their computer. Granted, they all no doubt have integrated GPUs, but I would think the graphics card is pretty much the second most expensive computer component. Don't some high end graphics cards price upwards of a grand? that's more than these damn computers cost!
No doubt the world keeps saying Macs are too expensive. A Mac is advertised in a magazine, but they never mention they have graphics cards in them worth many hundreds of dollars, and are instead compared to integrated graphics systems, which come out looking better (more RAM, bigger screen, bigger HDD, etc.)

At least Macs seem to win out in Graphics and CPU speed.

    End of Grump.

Limited parts production "silver lining" in that polishing the underlying OS/Software is ALWAYS most welcome.

I would love to see an ultra high-res display sold by Apple. If they sold a 4K display for 2 grand I would certainly bite. Couple an awesome 4K display with 2 next gen video cards and you have yourself the best gaming machine ever built.

    I can't wait. :D

You are talking :apple: pricing, then times that by 2 if not 3 and that is what they would sell a 4K display to you for. Think again, its not going to happen anytime soon. All this buzz is going to leave a lot of people disappointed since this is a new display model and nothing more. People do not sit a few inches from they computer monitor, they sit at a distance where you can barely notice the pixels on screen. Some screen have a poor quality compared to others and I know I have seen TN, PVA and IPS screens over my lifetime. I would prefer a 30" replacement matte LED as I am presently in the market for one.

Here's one for those of us who to choose to play by the rules!!

...and I absolutely LOVE my iPhone, btw...

Can only be 1 reason, Apple are worried.

If they felt totally confident in their product then they would not feel any threat from others and need to try something like this on.

If Apple cannot beat them....they sue them. Way to go Apple, you are devoid of morals and innovation.

When can we officially say that Apple is now the New Microsoft?

You guys clearly have no idea how patents work.

Absolutely not True......they MUST sue or they lose rights to the patent. Its the way the system works

    No. They're protecting their IP.

Ding ding! We have a couple winners. Finally someone on MR that gets it.

Show me something that works as well BEFORE Apple demoed the iPhone.

    Technology =/= usability.

If you hate Apple then why are you doing here?

Because it's Mac Rumors. Where the trolls/Apple bashers roam.

I too am interested in the display and related resolution questions.... A 17" MBP for used for video editing would make much more sense with a HD screen ie >1920x1080 (Sony already sell a 1920x1200 machine http://b2b.sony.com/Solutions/product/VGN-AR290G has a blu-ray burner too...)

Oh, and one more thing... it's got a Core 2 Duo inside!

    (but no OSX:p )
