1.) has the battery life + CPU and memory usage been improved?
I need to take my Air to class and work, and i was getting about 2 hours cut off with Lion compared to 10.6
That and it was eating my RAM for breakfast.

Maybe not at WWDC, but I don't see them waiting till Fall to put out new iPhone hardware, hold iOS5 till then, maybe, but not new hardware.
They risk losing people to Android, WebOS, etc... as the remaining iPhone3GS people all start coming off of contract, and nobody will go iPhone4 knowing 5 is just months away.
This waiting around also gives 3GS users a few months to check out other products (new Pre w/WebOS, etc). Apple does not want people looking around during that break time.

I dunno, i dont think buying an iPhone is feasible for at least another year. For me at least, just not excited about it at all. First of, it'll be the first ever Apple phone meaning there will be some niggles, also it'll be a candy bar. The only candy bar phone i can tolerate is a smart phone. Some thing tells me the iPhone WONT be a smartphone from the ground up. It'll be a phone with *some* smart phone abilities.
Also, like most recent rumored products from Apple, its probably been waaay overhyped and will end up being a dissapointment.
Palm shouldn't be so confident though. Apple is the same company that made Michael Dell eat his words.
People shouldn't discount palm yet either.

MobileMe will make the "most" sense to you in your greatest time of need.
For me it was getting hacked and my iPhone wiped. Since I keep my OS X Address Book, Contacts and Bookmarks up to date I was back to normal in about an hour. All contacts, documents and bookmarks just like I had left them. That's when I knew the money was well spent.
I've got to give kudos to MobileMe support. I couldn't talk on the phone but I was able to chat with a live representative and she helped me get reset. I understand why companies like to chat instead of use the phone because people tend to be more terse over chat as opposed to gabby on the phone.
The sync features are the reason for MobileMe. They will save your ass someday if use them.

And if you stop subscribing?...What happens to your music files stored in the cloud?
there is no subscription
you buy music from amazon you download an mp3. or you upload your own and listen to it on an android phone. if you stop using the service you still have your music on your computer

If they'd previously delivered it to my house, then yes.
I think a lower price is a reasonable trade-off for asking us to download, especially an upgrade of that size. Apple will be saving a considerable amount of money in terms of packaging, production, shipping, physical storage, shelf space (which they pay for in other stores), etc. Part of their ability to do that involves the use of the Internet connection I'm paying for (which, btw, for some people is metered.) I think that's reasonable.

Huh? If they aren't making any money for it now (with relatively few people paying for the service) how would it make sense to give it away for free (with many many more people not paying for it?)

I just don't really see how anyone should be surprised. It should be totally obvious to anyone who watches the smart phone market that Android would easily surpass IOS--they are indeed everywhere and I'm sure when it comes time to get a new phone--those with no preconceived ideas on what they want will walk out of the store with some kind of Android. Most who go in looking for an iPhone will probably leave with one. As long as Apple--and their shareholders are happy, I don't think it really matters.
Phone users will be the first to see feel the impact of these developments as Android ecosystem will see much faster development than iOS. With more and better options, users will overwhelmingly switch to Android. And then, it'll be AAPL shareholders turn to feel the impact.

You can't even begin to compare this service to MobileMe's current offerings. This is just space. (And a music player.) MobileMe offers address book, calendar, photo browsing, and other features.
Those services are readily available for free elsewhere. I used to subscribe to MobileMe back when it was the only reliable way to get push email, calendar, and contacts on my iPhone. Since then Google services have been allowed to be compatible and work about as well. I let my MobileMe subscription lapse. Towards the end, the only thing I was using my MobileMe for was the iDisk.

Syncing tools are also readily available for any external drive. External drives barely use any power, 20W during access. Processing power? You're not compressing or analyzing data. Just transferring and storing it. :confused:

My dropbox folder syncs across 3 computers and is easily accessible by my iPhone, plus I have shared folders with other users that sync across all my computers plus all the computers of my friends. That is value-added over simply buying an external hard drive.

They do know whom they're talking about right? I mean they say PC manufacturers yet palm are producing windows mobile pieces of junk. Windows mobile is the biggest piece of shite operating system - it would not be hard to come up with something a lot better (for Apple at least). And the Palm OS is very dear to my heart, but not exactly cutting edge and palm don't even own that anymore.

And then there's a few more nails in the coffin: a jailbreak must take advantage of a security flaw in Apple devices or software in order to be performed, and Apple must patch these flaws in order to maintain their device security. Even if Apple didn't care about jailbreaking so much they should continue patching the flaws, thus the cat and mouse game. So why doesn't Apple just allow it by default? See the earlier points, especially piracy. Apple is going to oppose jailbreaking to the end and they have legitimate reasons to do so. I like to jailbreak my devices from time to time, but I see where they're coming from.

When they haven't priced for volume, their success has been more attenuated. Now this was regarding media and the iTunes store, but there's no reason cloud services couldn't be the same, particularly given how competitive this sphere will be and the fact that there's no real marketing benefit to "premium" data pricing (as opposed to premium laptop/notebook pricing where higher prices can contribute to a perception of higher quality).

Sort of relieved no iPhone 5 announcements, Im firmly bogged down into a 2 year contract.
There will always be some people who are "bogged down" in their 2 year contracts. That's the whole reason I didn't buy an iPhone 4 last year, and now that it's almost time for my contract to be up, I'm looking forward to the iPhone 5. Not everyone is on the same contract schedule, so while this may have you very "glad" my 3GS is on its last leg, and I'm sorely disappointed that the iPhone 5 may be delayed past the normal 2 year release schedule.
Think about how that will screw things up as well for people who will buy the iPhone 7 in two more years if release is delayed until September if they go back to their normal release of late June. That's two-three months of having their iPhone 5 while the iPhone 7 is already shipping.
The ripple effect of moving the release date back by a few months is actually a lot larger than most people think. Especially if the push back is a one-time thing, and they go back to June releases afterwards.
A late-breaking thought I just had, would they even WANT to release in September anyway? They already do iPod updates every September, so I doubt they would want to have two large events in the same month.
