We all remember the internal meeting Jobs held discussing how Google was in effect 'declaring war on Apple' by invading their "mobile" turf; what if this is Apple reciprocating. Offering similar options to Gmail for free and attempting to complement MobileMe with iAds in an attempt to unthrone Google. With the high hopes Apple has for iAds (as suggested by the rumors regarding the high developer pricing of iAds) it does make sense, and in the very least, try to hurt Google. Another intriguing question is: would Apple loyalists prefer Apple service over another as long as the quality is acceptable (perhaps even if the quality was less than the options, at first).

it doesn't matter if you have a 64-bit processor and OS, you have to have 4Gb of RAM to run in 64-bit.
This is completely ridiculous. While one of the benefits of 64 bit chips is that it makes it easier to have >4 gig of RAM (and it's possible to get past that barrier with 32 bit chips as well), you are still "running in 64 bit" when using a 64 bit chip and OS.

Yay let us all surrender our privacy to the cloud... Sometimes I feel like the only one that understands the long term implications cloud based computer has when we allow our content and log files on others' servers. Thankfully I know I'm not the only one though.
Nope, not the only one. Boo to the cloud and everything related to it. I'd rather not have all of my data on a massive public server, available to Apple, advertisers and any government agency at all times. Those claiming that "it's encrypted" are not fully appreciating the security implications of not having control over the implementation of said encryption. For example, SSL/HTTPS is "encrypted" as well, but since Certificate Authorities give signed master-key certificates to all government intelligence and law enforcement agencies, it isn't technically 100% secure (despite mathematically unbreakable encryption).
Taking off the tin-foil hat and simply thinking about economics: I still don't understand how cloud computing is actually going to become a dominant market force. There are now only 3 wireless providers in the US, forming a tight oligopoly, and all of them are incredibly stingy with data caps and limitations. Moreover, there are only a handful of unique internet providers in the US and all are cutting client bandwidth, raising prices and instituting throttling or monthly data caps. So it would seem that big software companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google are pushing the idea of streaming everything; but internet providers only want to supply bandwidth for their own cable TV services. Something just doesn't add up. How is one supposed to have no local storage and just stream music and video when their wireless connection only allows for 2GB/month and their home ISP throttles everything other than its own cable TV service?

The rumors talking about the iPad 3 are mostly saying it would be a different model than the current iPad. There's multiple Macbook Pros. Don't be surprised if there are multiple iPads, like an iPad pro.

You really don't know what you are talking about. Many American businesses are world class. That doesn't include 2/3rds of the American auto industry sadly but GM made a management decision to sell crap and Chrysler never did sell anything of quality. However just because one industry is less than stellar it doesn't mean all are.

Doesn't OS X already support displays up to 2560x1600? Afaik that was the resolution of Apple's own (now discontinued) 30" display and the resolution of most, if not all, 30" displays available at the moment. 3200x2000 is nothing but the next rung on the ladder. This is just Apple future-proofing their OS a bit. If they release anything in the short term it will most likely be a big-ass iMac or a bigger Apple Display, NOT a laptop running that resolution. Just saying...
Yep. My Apple 30", which I bought in 2005 is 2560 x 1600. Oh, and my MacBook Pro 17", which runs at 1900 x 1200 can drive it as a secondary display. So could my older 17".
Here's something most people don't know. IBM created a 200 PPI display back in 2000. Veiwsonic later released it as their VP2290b, which ran at 3200 x 2400. I recall when it came out, that it was over $6k. It required 2 DVI cables to drive it, since at that time, Dual-DVI ports were not available.

In case you don't understand how business dynamics work, which I suspect you don't, Apple is one of the biggest, if not the biggest customer of Samsung Corp in existence. Another division of that company did something that really pissed off this important customer, enough that the customer ended up suing because of it.

Agreed, if you look at technical specifications, you can find newer tech on the market with more features. That's sort of the leapfrog game that all phones play.
Apple is unlike other phone manufacturers in that they don't get all feverish about playing the game. They look at the big picture: does the phone do what the consumer wants it to do. Apple makes sure the technical specifications of the iPhone stay current with that mandate for the largest class of consumer. It's the other companies chasing Apple that keep trumping their own tech specs with newer tech specs in the hopes of drawing a larger audience. Apple takes a longer view.

mac pro, xserve intel, leopard previews, maybe cinema displays, maybe something like a tablet that we haven't heard about.
no updates to imacs, macbooks, macbook pros, or minis. Those are minor speed bumps that will be done quietly over the coming weeks and months, not something to trumpet in a keynote.

If iOS 5 is delayed, it's possible that the iPhone 5 release will be later than June, perhaps September. A slightly improved version of the iPad 2 could also be released around that time, to be sold alongside the current version. September's Apple event could be a lot more than just new iPods.

Let's face it, it's going to be pretty hard to get excited about new computer hardware from Apple going forward, at least until we see something revolutionary in display technology (Apple has some pretty wild patents pending, so this is a possibility). The machines will get faster on a regular schedule now. I think boring and predictable from the perspective of processor power increases is a welcome change in the Mac user world.
Here is what I think would be exciting from Apple:
- A cell phone that doesn't suck. Oh, and include a PDA that can run Blackberry and Palm apps, but has a better core OS and interface. Oh, and make it an iPod when you flip it over.
- Leopard is a complete mystery. They've kept the lid very tight on any news about its features and improvements. I think we will see dramatic speed increases (benefits of the new kernel API introduced in Tiger plus Intel compilers). Please, Apple, beat MS to market with a resolution-independent interface. How about developer tools that make it far easier to migrate Windows apps to the Mac - that would be huge. I mean, the Mac OS is complete; you can make it lot more performant and tweak the interface a bit, but that's about all. Apple needs to focus on developers and developer mindshare like a laser beam. As Monkeyboy Ballmer says (sweating profusely and foaming at the mouth), "DEVELOPERS! DEVELOPERS! DEVELOPERS! DEVELOPERS!"
- iChat AV for Windows. They have the best consumer video conferencing software out there. Get some traction for iChat before Vista comes on the scene and its solution becomes the standard.
- iCash - Intuit has not kept up with the Windows version of Quicken (haven't seen the 2007 version) and it's just a really weak app. How about some money management software that rocks? The home market is huge for Apple and that is one of the most important apps for adult home users.

TBH, probably wasn't the AV.. when you dual boot there are so many bugs that go on w/ OSX. I never dual boot anymore because it would always lock my Mac up..
I saw a lady today at the Apple Store, and goes to the Genius Bar.. and the first thing she says "Hi, I am having troubles with my iMac, I dual booted through Boot Camp w/ Windows 7, and it crashed my Mac." I LOL'd and the genius's confirmed it was the cause of dual boot. I don't trust it... not one bit.

My opposition to this isn't because I think Digital Distribution is bad (the copy of Windows 7 I'm writing this on was downloaded, legally I might add, from Microsoft), it's because of how Apple is offering it.
I was able to download a .iso of Windows and install it how I wanted to. I was able to back up the .iso to an external hard drive and also to burn a copy of it.
The App Store (unless they change things) wouldn't allow that. I would have no problem with this if Apple included a way to create a DVD or USB installer from the download.

New question ... since the phone is linked via bluetooth to the Car Kit, does the bluetooth engage even if you don't place the phone in the device? ... if it's still in pocket, does a call ring through the speaker of the Car Kit when in the car?
The Bluetooth only works when the iPhone is in the cradle and the ignition is turned on. When you turn off the ignition, the Bluetooth turns off. If you have the iPhone in your pocket the Car Kit Bluetooth will not connect.

ARM have been ahead in mobile for well over a decade. Intel haven't caught up yet, admitiely some of that is due to Intel not really trying.

Wow you are either unintentionally or intentionally sounding very ignorant and naive. The cloud is the future and even Apple knows that as I'm sure they'll announce something similar soon. There are many advantages. For me the main is mobility and convenience.
Last night I uploaded 15GB of music to Amazon Cloud while I slept. This morning I have the Android app on my phone my Xoom and the web player anywhere else. I now have a single repository that is always in sync across all my devices and I can stream music from anytime. Best of all you can download your music again to any devices too. So it also serves as a great backup tool for your music or your favorite tracks.
Also whenever I buy an MP3 from Amazon (on phone or computer) it saves to the Cloud and is automatically available on all my devices. If I want I can have it download automatically to my computer and sync with iTunes as well - transparent.
Finally, the Amazon app for android doubles as a legit music player that can also play music from your local storage as well so it's a one stop shop (with widget of course).
Just because Apple didn't do it first doesn't mean it's not a game changer.
