i hope apple comes out with a shoe phone, something the pink panther or inspector gadget would use.

    Very retro.. ;)

Newegg has 512's for about 100 and 1GB chips for $200. Way cheaper than apple's upgrades. And they are retial crucial chips...

Hope that helps. Also, I don't know about the 750GB HD's - apple only offers 500GB drives - there may be a reason for that...
Are they fully buffered 667 MHz ECC RAM? :)

Dyslexia at work. Laptop processors are directly soldered to the LB to keep the profile slim, iMacs & minis socketed.

Doh, wrote the exact opposite of what I meant :/

You complain about "imposing beliefs", but asking people to "say a prayer" on the forum is certainly pushing one's beliefs on others. I suggested "best wishes" and "keeping them in your thoughts" as an alternative that doesn't involve supernatural beings.

And, by the way, the "flying spaghetti monster" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster) is part of a well-known movement (sometimes called the "Pastafarians") to preserve the concept of "separation of church and state" embodied in the US Constitution.

If you ever see the FSM emblem
    http://www.evolvefish.com/fish/media/E-FlyingSpaghettiEmblem.gif
on the car in front of you, you're behind a Pastafarian.

You're missing the point. No one got bitter until you came in and knocked him for encouraging people to pray for Japan. Prayer can be whatever you want it to be. You can either pray to God or simply give your best wishes as you said. There was absolutely no need for your out of the blue post blasting him for asking people to pray. Atheists love to point towards the religious as being the pushy ones, but time and time again I've noticed it's the atheists who take things personally and get bitter. I myself don't really give a damn what anyone says, I'm moreso of a Deist than a mainstream Christian. Both sides of the aisle can get extremely childish, like your post mocking prayer. It served no other purpose than to try and insult him and anyone else who believes in God.

I agree but think likely by Thanksgiving. I think mini will get the 1.66 GHz Core 2 Duo Combo and 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo Superdrive upgrades thus ending the last Mac to have only one core as well as the end of all 32-bit Macs. :)

Yeah I'd hedge on that bet too. Makes sense, if not faster?

Why is everyone freaking out about re-installing the OS? Lion creates a recovery partition as part of the install process. If you need to reinstall, just reboot and hold down option...pick the recovery partition and voila.

Does that work if the hard drive tanks and fumbles, crashes, burns, and is a useless pile of crap?

Why is everyone getting so bent out of shape so early? First off, this is hear say and not officially stated by Apple yet. If that time comes, I'm sure there will be the option of a physical disk, or some way to make a bootable install disk using disk utility. I mean this thing is already 9 pages long of people flipping out that OMG!!! ITS A DOWNLOAD!!! Guess what? Microsoft offers windows as a download, and guess what? You can burn it to a physical disk.. I can't believe so many people are already jumping the gun on a RUMOR. It's a RUMOR until Apple officially announces it...

Perhaps its people realizing that the marriage of iOS & OS X signals a degree of uncertainty, mistrust, or just plain doubt based on an unpredictable Apple. Or not.

Maybe its those in the crowd who have the technical comprehension, to cause them to question Apple's true intentions.

Then again it could be that many are sensing a new less interesting era of appliance like simplicity.

"Look ma, even grandma Evelyn can use this".

Ridiculous. Nothing is at all similar, aside from the bezel. But then if that's an "infringement" then all those digital picture frame makers can sue Apple for copying their "user interface". Honeycomb itself, the actual aspect ratio, none of that is similar. Get a grip Apple.

Have you looked at the TouchWiz UI? It's almost identical to iOS - dock at the bottom, pages of icons in a grid and you even remove applications in the same way as you do on the iPhone. I've nothing at all against competition for iOS, but they shouldn't just rip the design off

For some strange reason you think monopolies are good for consumers.

Actually, this is more of a situation of a monopsony in play where there are multiple sellers of various components but only a single buyer. This, in turn, locks out other buyers from being able to leverage price efficiencies and limits the competition from achieving an upper hand price wise.

    How about this for WWDC:

--Talk about how great the switch to Intel is going
--Praise developers work on Universal apps
    --Talk about pro software
    --Sit down and preview Leopard
--Talk about new Core 2 Duo
--Oh, by the way the iMac I have been using has the new Core 2 Duo
(Conroe) in it (he seems to like to do this), shippng now
--We want our Pentium 4 Power Macs back...
    --Introduce new Mac Pro (Woodcrest),
    shipping now
--Talk about how transition to Intel is almost complete and will be by the end
    of 2006
    --Thanks for comng
    One more thing...
--MBP with Core 2 Duo (to complete the Pro Line), shipping in two weeks
Line-by-line, I think that's the most accurate prediction to date.

Interesting how the guy is a total dick when writing to Steve. Nice to see SJ keeps his cool when these idiots with a massive sense of entitlement choose to hit the send button.

Hes not acting like a dick, he's just worried because of what hes heard.

I know your email to Steve would begin with "Your Royal Appleness" and end with "Your faithful Man-Servant"

The man has heard his phone is tracking his location, and is naturally, entitled to be worried.

Suppose it'd be a bit heretic to buy one of these solely for Windows, right?

I'd not get a quad Xeon Woodcrest anywhere else for less, and my Athlon 64 just doesn't cut it...

If that is what you want, Apple won't mind at all if you buy a Macintosh to run Windows.

No, they are doing it to make installations easier. You can already install Lion on Hackintoshes.

What was hard about previous installations ? Pop CD in, run upgrade. Same process.

You didn't have to boot off the SL CD to install it, you could start the upgrade process from Leopard just fine.

Unfortunately, only 25% of the US market agrees with you. ;)

Who cares? After all it's just personal choice. Whether you use iPhone or Android, it's your choice and nobody else but yours.

Just as long as they don't make it the preferred method for others to distribute software or it to become the only way.

I don't see how that would be possible without shutting out all existing software.

Looking at the TouchWiz UI, I see your point.

But, at what point does an interface become too generic? For example, the concept of pages of icons in a grid isn't really new or innovative. The concept of swiping across screens is simple and intuitive and should be standardized
(e.g. copied) for that exact reason. Should other phone makers put the icons in a circle, "just because" they need to be different? Should they force you to do something differently just because the best and most intuitive way was "already taken"?

Everyone loves car analogies, so: what if Ford decided to sue other carmakers because they copied their steering wheel design? Would other companies have been forced to adopt other types of controls -- joysticks or dials or foot pedals, perhaps -- "just because"? And would that have been good for the auto industry?
