Why couldn't apple mail a movie to you via USPS? Pop it into your <insert favorite Mac flavor> and have it automaticly import into iTunes library. There is no way I would download a 2g file to watch a movie. 2g is way too big to download. Compare that to music, 5mb on the high end. 2g is 400 times the size. I don't see downloading as a viable option, atleast not at the resolution that makes it competitive with DVD.

PS I think downloadable movies sounds great, but I don't think it is practicle.

Apple wouldn't do that because NetFlix already does.

Thanks MR for generating discussion around a pretty lame topic. That said, Id rather have Toyota spending their extra time perfecting that little acceleration/braking glitch that affected a "couple" of their cars, than making a lame a$$ Scion theme for Cydia.

I would really like to see Apple have a laptop cheaper than $1,100, and I think there would be a definite market for the, especially for teenagers looking into getting a Mac. I know that's unlikely, but...
Anyways I hope that the MBPs get the processor update (and a new enclosure) very soon and I really hope the MBs and Mac Minis follow soon after.
I don't get any reason for Apple not too, and I think with Intel it would be possible for Apple to get some cheaper computers out there. It would be nice, but seems unlikely.... *sighs*

I think Apple needs to concentrate more on improving iOS rather than adding a faster processor. Tbh I'm pretty fed up of my iPhone 4 as the is just looks boringly simple. Not everybody wants the same old os on every device. I think it's the omnia 7 next for me so I can have a change.

That doesn't fit in with their UI principles so they won't. Once I too questioned why anyone should expect an OS to be inherently entertaining I had to agree that spending any time making the launch board delight you would be silly and pointless. And why on Earth should a phone have a "desktop"?

Still happy with TT kit. No rattling noise and both landscape and portrait hold in position well. Only issue I have is using aux for music through the car stereo. I continute to get a slight hissing noise which is annoying. If music is loud and heavy base, then I don't hear any distracting noise--but slow or soft music does have the noise. This seems to be the case whether I go from car jack to iphone or from tt kit to iphone to car jack. bummer.

Right and what is your point?

If they weren't making money they would be sold off or shut down. They are high end cars sold to the rich. But let me guess you are stupid to buy an over priced Apple or iProduct right? Just like anyone that buys a BMW, Ferrari or Porsche is dumb. What is dumb is thinking one product is better than another. What is better, the iPhone, Android or a Star Tec? I guess if the only thing I want to do is make phone calls my old Star Tec is the best if it still works. My point is it depends on what your needs are.

About that guess. I didn't argue that it's dumb to buy an Apple product. Nor that it's dumb to buy a Ferrari or Porsche. Nice try.

My point was that they are now owned or mergining with other companies. Porsche had a 9 billion debt. They weren't making enough money. I bet they were worrying about the future though.

if apple is going to release a tablet pc they will introduce a touch interface feature that will be shared with the macbook lines. this would explain the recent rumors for the multi use touch pad in the Mb's. IF there is to be a tablet it will be a hand held. It will be the Mac Mobile. the fore told professionals interfacing device. Download media wirlessly or fron data cards. Use it to move media from the capture device to a hard/external drive.

with front row 2 and internal airport x wirless you can preview on the itv enabled plasma or from the mac mobile in you hand.

i think it will take the form of the mini but i hope they take it to the level of the consumer. like ibook was. :o

    That isn't a heatsinked FB-DIMM.

RAM is truly the dealbreaker here. EDU prices bring the 2.0 model down to a reasonable price, but I want 4GB - I'd like to scan my 4x5 film, so the more RAM the better - thanks to Xeon and the need for the ECC heatsinked stuff, I'm looking at $800 from Crucial. No way, man, not gonna do it.

The more I look at it, the more I believe a reasonable mid-tower option has to be in the pipeline.Yeah I know what you mean. I fixed my post #188 to reflect that higher price. How About $770 From Kingston Technology? (http://www.wiredzone.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=32003196&source=froogle)

The big question now is, what is the price going to be?

Will people be more hesitant to buy something that costs over $100 that they receive no copy of? (Though Apple is typically good with allowing you to re-download apps).

    Who is joking here?

A better battery is highly improbable. However if you only look at the dark side of an event you pass up any chance of benefitting from it. Certainly it isn't good to have your nukes melt down but this is also a learning opportunity. That is if people can look at what is happening objectively. If all you see is people getting irradiated then you aren't looking at the bigger picture.

I assume the "maybe the radiation will produce higher density batteries" comment was meant as a joke.

As for the rest of what you said, no doubt.

That has nothing to due with quality. It's due to low manufacturing costs.

And in many cases making software or services requires more brainpower and sophistication than making a physical product. Japan has yet to produce a world-class software company outside of video games.

So this "American products are low quality" argument just doesn't hold water any way you look at it.

What I'd like to see are some concrete examples of poor quality products that were made in America. I hear a lot of people stating that we make subpar products, but I haven't heard any examples.

I'm not defending either position, just want someone to present some evidence.

I don't think the Chrysler argument will hold up anymore seeing as how most automobiles have a foreign influence on them, so let's stray from automobiles on this one.

I see people still dont understand what a monopoly is. Apple would only be considered a monopoly if they used their power & influence to force the component supplier to cancel or move Apples orders ahead of RIMs or any other.

Personally I bet RIM is breathing a huge sigh of relief, by all accounts the PlayBook is as unfinished and rough around the edges as Honeycomb on the Xoom.

well I installed this on both of my MacBook Airs, One is my Wife's. It found 0 on mine, but found 4 trojans on my wife's, all associated with Java. It pointed them out to me and when I found the file it pointed out, the software deleted the file for me. Not bad for free. Thanks Sophos, didn't know those were there.

Yes, I want to donate to the Fed (http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-real-housewives-of-wall-street-look-whos-cashing-in-on-the-bailout-20110411?page=1) (so that my money can go lie on a Cayman island beach, since I never will be able to).

Holy crap! You know these things are going on but to read the details is nauseating.

And then there are the bailout deals that make no sense at all. Republicans go mad over spending on health care and school for Mexican illegals. So why aren't they flipping out over the $9.6 billion in loans the Fed made to the Central Bank of Mexico? How do we explain the $2.2 billion in loans that went to the Korea Development Bank, the biggest state bank of South Korea, whose sole purpose is to promote development in South Korea? And at a time when America is borrowing from the Middle East at interest rates of three percent, why did the Fed extend $35 billion in loans to the Arab Banking Corporation of Bahrain at interest rates as low as one quarter of one point?

Even more disturbing, the major stakeholder in the Bahrain bank is none other than the Central Bank of Libya, which owns 59 percent of the operation. In fact, the Bahrain bank just received a special exemption from the U.S. Treasury to prevent its assets from being frozen in accord with economic sanctions. That's right: Muammar Qaddafi received more than 70 loans from the Federal Reserve, along with the Real Housewives of Wall Street.

Perhaps the most irritating facet of all of these transactions is the fact that hundreds of millions of Fed dollars were given out to hedge funds and other investors with addresses in the Cayman Islands. Many of those addresses belong to companies with American affiliations including prominent Wall Street names like Pimco, Blackstone and . . . Christy Mack. Yes, even Waterfall TALF Opportunity is an offshore company. It's one thing for the federal government to look the other way when Wall Street hotshots evade U.S. taxes by registering their investment companies in the Cayman Islands. But subsidizing tax evasion? Giving it a federal bailout?

[url="http://semiaccurate.com/2011/05/05/apple-dumps-intel-from-laptop-lines/"]SemiAccurate claims (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/05/06/apple-to-move-from-intel-to-arm-processors-in-future-laptops/) to have heard that Apple will be transitioning from Intel processors to ARM processors in the not too distant future.

    Interesting rumour.

I heard the other way around, that Apple will be using Intel as its main processor manufacturer (http://www.winbeta.org/?q=news/intel-build-next-generation-processor-ios-devices) for the iPad,iPod Touch, and iPhone, and will more than likely make that switch within the next year.

Reasons may be because of the ongoing lawsuits between Apple and Samsung, which they currently use.

I heard it enough, that it even got slashdotted (http://apple.slashdot.org/story/11/05/03/1357202/Intel-To-Build-Next-Gen-Processor-For-iOS-Devices).

So why go the exact opposite for the laptops when they would still be with Intel for their other devices? It would make better sense to standardize across the board.

    BL.

Again, KDE 2.0, 10 years ago. My Pentium 2 333 mhz didn't break a sweat doing SVG icons then (the Krystal SVG icon theme). ;)

I seriously doubt this is even an issue.

I doubt it had to process translucency or resize 50 times per second for 30+ images though :P If it were as efficient as bitmaps, it'd be used for game textures for sure... A texture would scale to any size with no pixellation at all, and the details wouldn't get blurred out when scaling down.

But I don't understand the resistance to SVG support, which would be a decade late. Sure it's not a shortcoming, but in light of these stories, it would be a "nicer to have".

I do agree SVG support is a good thing, just I don't see it getting used much. Even with resolution independence, standard pixel images are much easier to handle.

I'm not sure....it could be the next great product to be unveiled @ WWDC, but it seems a little soon and I just can't really see Apple making a phone. Sorry. While I'm sure if it is true, it'd be a cool phone, but it just seems like one of those rumours that comes up occasionally and then goes away, just like the Tablet Mac. On the other hand, the Marklar rumours were true, so I don't know. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

    Yeah tell me about it.

How much does it take to break a Verizon contract again...?

It's $175, and I think it'd be worth it. I never get more than maybe three bars, and let's just forget their international plans. I think I'm going to switch to T-Mobile in a few weeks. My Verizon phone was $1.50 a minute internationally and it didn't even work in Rome and my aunt's T-Mobile phone I borrowed for my trip to Singapore was $0.99/min. and worked so well.
